I LIKE LEARNING NEW SKILS
I'm a person that tries to push the boundaries of what is possible, while creatively working inside constraints. I always try to add to my skills, and I can confidently use a good number of CAD packages such as Solidworks, AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. My other skills include Arduino programming, graphic design with Photoshop and InDesign, modelling, prototyping and software building with Python.
HOW I STARTED
This project is 14 years old and it's probably my favourite. This rocket was made by me and my grandad. He was a massive role model when I was a child and the main reason I am a designer. My grandad helped me to grow up in a world where anything is possible. My grandad inspired me to be the person, designer and engineer I am today. I am Derek Murray inspired, DM inspired.
WHAT I'M DOING NOW
I'm currently at Preston UCLan University progressing through a Master's in Additive Manufacturing. My passion is mechatronic design. I have recently completed a BSc degree in Product Design Engineering in Liverpool John Moores University. finishing with a 2:1 classification.
MOTORBIKES
Motorbikes and the MotoGP is one of my interests outside of project work, although I would like to do a project involving Motorbikes. I really enjoy going to Silverstone each year to watch the MotoGP with a handful of friends. I am a fan of Yamaha especially with Jorge Lorenzo before he retired, but I still hope he will return as he remains a Yamaha test rider.
POWER KITING
I have been power kiting since I was in high school. I have 4 kites, the biggest being 3.5 metres, which is able to pull a buggy. The only problem with this sport is that it's weather permitted and needs a lot of space. One day I would like to try kite surfing or kite snowboarding. I also have a stunt kite that's capable of flying in next to no wind.
Puzzles are one of the ways I relax, Sudoku is my current favourite. I really like to problem solve, and it fascinates me seeing the thought processes other people go through solving puzzles. I have just started designing puzzles in the hope of making my own app.
PUZZLES
FAVOURITE PROJECT
This project was my favourite because it allowed me to use a lot of different skills at once. Even though it didn't turn out how I imagined I was still happy with the outcome. I have started working on version two. I really enjoyed the problem solving aspect of this project and I felt there were a lot of challenges to overcome. I love talking about this project in particular, and I would be happy to answer any questions.
LEAST FAVOURITE PROJECT
This project I did as a challenge set by a friend. It misses a lot of the aspects I like about projects - the designing, prototyping and problem solving. Once I had a plan on how to model the McLaren, the rest of the project involved many hours of repetition. My favourite part of this project was the rending process.
